Easy Cartoon Effect Tutorial in Photoshop

Easy Cartoon Effect Tutorial in Photoshop

This simple photoshop tutorial targets all photoshop-lover out there who wants to have a cartoon effect of an image or any picture. This helps to familiarize some photoshop effects that can be found in the filter tab.

So to start, please open in the photoshop the image or picture you want to edit (on my case i use an eagle image which i found in google). Duplicate it by just pressing in the keyboard the ctrl+j (to do this hold first the ctrl button then the letter j in the keyboard.)

Once you have the image to be edit please check first if its in RGB Mode - to check this go to Image bar > then mode > then under the menu bar if you see this words " RGB Color" with a check on the left side then its fine.

Once everything is ready, Go to Filter > Artistic > Poster Edge then click.

On the Poster Edges Screen, just leave the value as is. or change it if you want depending how the image looks ok to you. In my case this is my value: Edge thickness = 2 ; Edge Intensity = 1; Posterization = 2.
Then Press OK.

Next thing you do is we will adjust the Brightness & Contrast with the values: Brightness Value: 10 Contrast: 30 then OK.To do this go to Image> Adjustments > Brightness & Contrast...

Lastly, we will do an artistic cut out effect to give it that cartoon look. To do this, go to Filter > Artistic > Cut Out. And this is the final result look like!

Hopefully this tutorial gives you an idea on how to create a cartoon effect with the use of Photoshop. Actually you could play on other values to get it more a cartoon feel as you desired. Or just retouch it with the use of Illustrator.

Thanks for reading! Stay tuned coz we got more tutorials to come.

Cheers!!!
